WHAT ARE  CHECK IN AND CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in is 3pm. Check-out is 11am
If your arrival or departure time does not mesh with these times, please let us know ahead of time so can prepare for our next guests properly.

HOW MUCH MONEY SHOULD I BUDGET FOR EACH DAY?

Cash is needed for establishments and services that don’t accept credit cards as well as tipping.  Suggested budget for two guests would range from  $200-$400 (USD) per day, depending on a number of variables:  dining and drinking establishments, beach club, activities, spa/massage services, souvenirs, etc Fishing tours, off-island tours, or private chef services  will require a larger budget.

ARE CREDIT CARDS WIDELY ACCEPTED ON THE ISLAND?

Cash is King on Isla Mujeres. While some places accept credit, many places specify “Cash Only”. US Dollars are accepted, however the exchange rate will be better if you pay with Mexican Pesos. We recommend coming to the island with some Mexican Pesos on hand. There are convenient exchange places at the airport and on the island at the Isla Mujeres ferry terminal, and at ATMS at banks.

WHAT ARE TIPPING CUSTOMS ON ISLA?

Tipping is always appreciated and never required. How much you tip, is up to you. As in the US, we tip 15-20% of our tab/service. It is against the law for restaurants to include the tip on the bill, but that does not stop some from trying to add a tip, so always review your bill carefully, and look to see if your tab includes “servicio” or “tips” before leaving a tip on the table. Islanders work very hard to meet tourists’ expectations and often work for nothing more than their tips, for example the porters at the ferry dock and the baggers at the grocery store work ONLY for tips. We ask that you tip our staff at your discretion upon your departure.

ARE THERE BANKS / ATMS ON THE ISLAND?

Yes, there are a number of banks on the island, each with ATMs. There is an ATM at the Chedraui grocery store, and you can wire transfer money to yourself via Remitely. Ask us for details if you need assistance.

WHAT ABOUT GOLF CART RENTALS AND OTHER TRANSPORTATION ON ISLAND?

Yes! Just ask our property manager to assist you. There are also plenty of taxis along the main road.
There is a bus service on the island that runs until 9pm. You can wave down the driver to stop in front of the house. Bus fare is $2.00 (USD), they offer On/Off all day bus fares.

CAN YOU STOCK THE HOUSE WITH GROCERIES FOR MY ARRIVAL?

Yes! Just ask our property manager to help you. They will provide you with an itemized receipt for the cost of your groceries. On the island there are grocery stores and many mini-supers. Chedraui is the largest grocery store on the island and carries items similar to most grocery stores in the U.S. and Canda.  While most of the signage and packaging are in Spanish, it’s fairly easy to navigate.

ARE THERE PRIVATE CHEFS AVAILABLE TO HIRE?

Yes! Please ask our property manager. They will be able to provide a number of options for you.

ARE THERE SPA SERVICES THAT WILL COME TO CASA LUZ?

Yes! Massages, yoga sessions, facials, nails, and more. Just ask our property manager for help.

IS CASA LUZ CLOSE TO THE BEACHES?

Yes. Isla Mujeres is only 5 miles long north/south and 1 mile wide east/west. All beaches are open to the public. The best beaches are 15-20 minutes away by golf cart.
Casa Luz is located on the south end of the island. North Beach (Playa Norte) is on the far north end. Central Beach (Playa Centro) on the far northwestern point of the island. There are other beaches on the eastern coastline that you can wade in. There are several beach clubs as well on the bay side of the island.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE NORTH AND SOUTH ENDS OF THE ISLAND?

Casa Luz is located on the south end of the island. This part of Isla Mujeres is more peaceful than the north where Centro is located. There are a few restaurants/bars, a water park, and historic sites within walking distance from Casa Luz with amazing views of the Bahia Mujeres. The north end is  located at the end of Centro (the downtown area) It includes residences, hotels as well as Avenida Hidalgo, a pedestrian only street,  which offers more bars, restaurants, shops, and music. Mid-island, around the Colonia LaGloria also offers lots to explore. With the island being only 5 miles long, you are always close to “the action” yet distanced enough to enjoy tranquility at Casa Luz.

WHAT ACTIVITIES/EXPERIENCES ARE ON ISLA MUJERES?

Depending on your preferences the list includes: snorkeling, scuba diving, sunbathing, beach combing, swimming with whale sharks (summer months only), fishing (bay and deep sea), dining, playing at parks, boating, taking in local sites, touring historic sites, spa services you can get pampered at, taking walks, relaxing, or just doing nothing!
